A founder's story

It's 2:30 in the morning.

I'm standing in the kitchen with a crying baby, a drawer full of pacifiers, and no idea what I'm doing wrong. This is the story of how that night turned into Nuckly.

Chapter 1

The night nothing worked.

Our son was five weeks old. He was fed, dry, warm, and still screaming like something was terribly wrong. My wife had nursed him twice in the last hour. Every time he latched on, he calmed down within seconds. Every time she took him off, it started all over again.

So I did what you do at 2:30 in the morning. I opened the drawer with the pacifiers. We had four different ones by then: two gifts, one a friend swore by, one from the pediatrician's waiting room. I tried the first. He pushed it out with his tongue before I had even let go. The second one, same thing. The third made him gag. The fourth stayed in for about two seconds and then rolled across the floor.

"He can nurse for forty minutes without a problem. Why does every pacifier feel wrong to him?"

That question kept me up more than the crying did. Because what it really meant was this: nursing works, and only nursing works. Which sounds wonderful in theory and is exhausting in practice. It means one person is the only way this baby settles. Day and night. In the car. At the supermarket. At 2:30 a.m.

What I didn't know back then: this isn't a stubborn baby. It's a shape problem. And a lot of parents are standing in exactly that kitchen.

Chapter 2

Our midwife needed about thirty seconds.

A few days later she came by for a check-up and I told her about that night. She didn't even blink. She picked up one of our pacifiers and said: "Look at the shape. Round, short, firm tip. When he sucks on this, his tongue gets pushed backwards. At the breast it's the opposite. His tongue is in front, his lips are rolled outwards, and he creates a soft vacuum. That's what he knows. That's what feels safe. Everything else, his body rejects."

She called it the spit-out reflex. I called it the reason I hadn't slept in a week.

Then she said the sentence that started all of this: "If someone built a pacifier that actually behaves like the breast, most of these babies would take it."

1Breast-like shape

A wide, soft nipple that fills the mouth the way the breast does, instead of a small firm tip that feels foreign.

2Lips roll out, tongue stays in front

The same latch as nursing. Nothing gets pushed backwards, so nothing triggers the spit-out reflex.

3A gentle vacuum

Soft silicone that gives way under the tongue. The sucking reflex takes over, and the baby settles.

This is what she meant.

Same baby, same minute. First a standard pacifier, then Nuckly. Watch the tongue, and watch the lips.

Chapter 3

Two years. More prototypes than I want to admit.

I called Dustin the next morning. We'd been talking about building something together for years, and suddenly there it was. Not an app. Not a gadget. A pacifier that behaves like the breast.

It sounded simple. It wasn't. We spent more than two years developing Nuckly with midwives, doctors and specialists from the Charité environment in Berlin, and with hundreds of families who tested every single version. Some prototypes were too big. Some too firm. One was accepted by almost every baby and impossible to keep clean. We threw it out.

What we ended up with is one piece of 100% medical-grade silicone. No seams, no gaps, nothing to take apart. BPA-free. Soft enough to give way, shaped so the lips roll out and the tongue stays in front. Designed in Germany, and tested by the toughest jury there is: newborns at 2:30 in the morning.

It wasn't just our baby.

No actors, no studio. Parents filming the moment their baby finally accepts a pacifier. These are the videos that still make my day.

The honest part

Not every baby takes it. Most do.

I promised myself we'd never write a page that pretends otherwise. Our son took Nuckly on the second try. Most babies take it within the first few tries, because the shape is the one they already know. Some don't, and that's okay.

That's why returns are easy. If Nuckly isn't your baby's pacifier, send it back and we'll sort it out. You have enough on your plate.

Review: Our son is basically not a pacifier fan, but with Nuckly he accepts it well and calms down quickly Review: Our son didn't want to take a pacifier and we tried everything. Nuckly he accepted after a very short time
Review: Surprisingly really good. My son has never really accepted a pacifier, after trying Nuckly for the first time he accepted it pretty well

Questions? Answered.

What if my baby doesn't accept Nuckly?

Most babies accept Nuckly within the first few tries because the shape feels like the breast. Offer it in a calm moment, for example after feeding, and gently stroke the cheek so the sucking reflex kicks in. If it still doesn't work out, returns are easy and our team is happy to help with tips.

Can I use Nuckly while breastfeeding?

Yes. Nuckly was developed together with midwives specifically to combine with breastfeeding. The wide, soft nipple encourages the same natural sucking pattern as nursing, which helps avoid nipple confusion.

Which age is Nuckly suitable for?

Nuckly is designed for babies from birth. The one-size shape adapts naturally to the baby's mouth. As with any pacifier, please check it regularly and replace it after 4 to 8 weeks of daily use.

How do I clean it?

Boil it for 3 to 5 minutes before first use, then rinse with warm water after use and boil it regularly. Nuckly is one piece and fully transparent, so you can see it's clean. Please don't put it in the microwave or dishwasher.

How fast do you ship?

We ship across Europe and internationally. You'll receive a tracking link as soon as your order leaves the warehouse. Not happy? Returns are easy, no questions asked.
